Linvilla Orchards: A Delco Fall Tradition

If you think of fall in Delaware County, Linvilla Orchards is probably the first thing that comes to mind. If you grew up in Delco there was at least one autumn trip to Linvilla a year.  I can still smell the fresh baked apple pies coming from the bakery oven. I can taste the ruby red candy apples that would stick to my teeth. UPDATE:What’s next for Granite Run Mall?

UPDATE: 9/21/14 Developers for the proposed Granite Run Mall site on updated Middletown Township official on some of the details of the site. BET Investments company president Michael Markman explained the plan for a mixed use retail and residential development on the 58-acre property. The mall’s existing three anchor stores Boscov’s, Sears and JCPenney would remain. A 15-screen movie theatre is planned for the second floor of JCPenney. Strath Haven Band to Perform at Eagles Halftime

The biggest band in the land is going big time.  Strath Haven High School marching band landed a last minute invite to play the halftime show during this Sunday’s Philadelphia Eagles game against the Washington Redskins at Lincoln Financial Field. It’s left parents of the 450 band members scrambling for tickets to see their kids play on the big stage. (Unfortunately, Fox will not be showing the halftime show on it’s TV broadcast). Broomall-Newtown u13 wins Babe Ruth World Series

  While the Taney Dragons were soaking up the spotlight at the Little League World Series there was another team making headlines across the country. And they came home with the hardware. VIA-Delaware County Times Taney who? The Philadelphia area got its national baseball championship Friday night courtesy of the Broomall-Newtown Babe Ruth 13s team. The Broomall-Newtown squad claimed a pair of victories on the final day of the Babe Ruth World Series in Glen Allen, Va., punctuating the tournament with a come-from-behind 11-4 thumping of Chandler-Mesa, Ariz., in the final to clinch the title. Stanley Cup Goes to Sea Isle City

  Lord Stanley made a trip to the Jersey Shore. In what is one of the coolest traditions in sports, each member of the Stanley Cup winning team gets to spend 24 hours with the Cup. And there have been some crazy stories of what has been done in the Cup.  (When the Red Wings won the Cup it ended up in Kid Rock’s swimming pool.)  Los Angeles Kings Assistant Coach John Stevens who owns a home in Sea Isle City decided to bring the Cup down th shore. Here’s the deal. The City of Philadelphia has a whole secret stash of old videos.  But it’s not what you think. These films are historic archive videos of city sights, landmarks and some events.
