What kind of pizza goes with an IPA? Does summer sausage taste good with an Oatmeal Stout? Those questions seem to be more directed at a wine connoisseur than a beer drinker. But these days beer is making it onto a menu more than an afterthought. Restauranteurs are quickly realizing that beer has a fantastic capacity to pair with all kinds of foods. 320 Market Cafe in Swarthmore is beginning to capitalize on the phenomenon. 320’s Chester Road location started their craft beer offerings earlier this year and is now making beer a major part of the menu. “Beer is actually more food friendly than wine” says 320 Market Cafe co-owner Jack Cunicelli. That pairing is the idea behind “Beer Sessions”, a monthly beer pairing menu at 320’s Swarthmore location.
“Beer Sessions” feature 320’s head chef and top beer sommelier who teach novices to experts the best flavors to match when drinking your favorite brew. The limited 16-customer seating sessions are intimate and informal. Usually the 90 minute”Beer Sessions” will feature 4 craft beers that are matched with different samplings of various seasonal foods all found at 320 Market.
The owners are so confident in the idea, 320 Market Cafe is planning to open up a concept restaurant based around food and alcohol pairings in Media in January of 2015. Plans are in the works to construct the new restaurant at the Media Town Mall on the west end of State Street.
“Beer Sessions” are held the last Tuesday of the month at 320 Market on Chester Road in Swarthmore. For more information and reservations click here.
