“I have been helping hoarders for years, but simply could not help enough people with my small team,” said Paxton. “I was attracted to the ServiceMaster national footprint and business model because it focuses not only on the cleaning, but on compassion for the individuals who are affected by hoarding.

As many as 15 million people in the U.S. may suffer from compulsive hoarding, a disorder that is characterized by an individual’s inability to discard items that others may view as worthless. Hoarders have persistent difficulty getting rid of or parting with possessions, leading to clutter that disrupts their ability to use their living or work spaces. It can cause substantial distress and lead to disability, even eviction.

“A hoarding job is not a quick cleanup. It takes time, understanding and support, not just from us but from family members and the community,” said Robert Neef owner of ServiceMaster by ARTec. “Clutter created by hoarding can result in serious threats to the health and safety of both hoarders and those who live with them. It can also cause great stress in their families.”

Hoarding is now recognized as its own disorder in the American Psychiatric Association’s Diagnostic and Statistical Manual of Mental Disorders. Previously, it was considered to be related to obsessive compulsive disorder, or OCD.

“Our team understands the sensitivity and emotional impact hoarding has on individuals and their families. We are here to help restore lives through cleaning and compassion.” said Neef. For more information, please call 610-626-9002 or visit www.svmartec.com
